D-ESP

  1. Batteries are now charged after its miraculous recovery.  Drawing 2amps.  Usually draws 1 to 2, but we will move ahead.  Current limit on MARS now set for 15A (D-ESP peaked at 10.5A before death).
  2. Do we turn on ISMS?  After discussion, we will let D-ESP run a phase, then turn on ISMS (which could be late tomorrow or next week).  Potential recovery day Jan 2, 3, or 4.
  3. Chris P. should make her 'water request' to the Lobos.

Surface

  1. Scott has met with ROV pilots and handed off the design and building of the battery sled to them.  Will order 1 more ODI connector (for a total of 4) so we have a spare.
  • Announcements

  • Scott and Jim will attend one day of exhibits at ALA Jan 29.  Will get Cindy to work out logistics.
  • Jim meeting Pete Girguis at AGU next Weds.  Given that the fundamental question of the JdF cruise is how it might provide a window into microbial populations given certain environmental conditions, what are the details we need from him?  Suggestions:
      • Possible locations?  Go to most important first.
      • Temperatures and depths?
      • Mass Spec
        • Can it be turned off and on to run again?
        • What power cycling scheme is possible?
        • How will/how much power reduction will we have by JdF?
        • What are defaults if we can't move the D-ESP given a top speed of 0.2knts while ROV is under water at depth.
      • Issues from Chris P:
        • Capture probes and frozen cells for the bacterioplakton he wants detect on the array.  Sooner the better. I'll be starting testing of some new deep captures in early Jan. and can fold his in
        • We have to have in OUR hands his assay condition, primers and probes for loading on Gordon on April 25.
